he highly anticipated biannual Smart Conference and Expo is only a short time away, so if you
haven’t made your travel plans and booked for the conference it is high time to do so.
An event of this calibre, taking place only every two years, means that anticipation builds up
and most supply chain professionals have had the conference and expo indelibly marked on their cal-
endars since the last one closed its doors in 2013. And the fact that, for the first time ever, it is taking
place in Melbourne just adds to the impetus, bringing its well-established combination of high-quality
presentations, networking gatherings, site visits and comprehensive supplier expo to the southern city.
Smart Conference and Expo has for many years been the most highly regarded – some say the
only worthwhile – supply chain management event in Australia for many years.
The meeting place
One could of course deliberate and discuss during the lunch break what exactly it is that has made
Smart the (and I mean the) professional development event and career booster for supply chain man-
agement professionals, however, the two stand-outs for me over the years have been the expert and
in-depth presentations and the meeting, networking and discussion-inducing nature of the occasion.
It is where professionals hear from their peers about best-practice supply chain management
methods and procedures; it is where audience members have an opportunity do question, query and
discuss with the presenter specific and perhaps specialised areas of their working lives; it is where,
more often then not, you will strike up a conversation, and perhaps form a friendship, with a fellow
attendee, with the discussion continuing into the lunch break, or maybe into the afternoon and evening.
It is about learning, opening your eyes, gaining new ideas – best practice professional development.
Look around at the expo
Smart wouldn’t be Smart without the Expo, of course, where the best of the best and latest of supply
chain technology is to be found. Arranged in convenient booths and stands that both allow for
representative displays and encourage active discussion, Smart Expo simply is the place to discover
and source the next investment in your supply chain productivity.
See you there!
