apicsAU selects the Company of the Year
based on the breadth of a current corporate
partner's involvement in the apicsAU commu-
nity. Years of membership are taken into con-
sideration, as well as the variety of certification
courses and professional developments events
members from the company have taken advan-
tage of during the past year and beyond.
apicsAU would like to thank PML for its con-
tinuing support over the years, and look forward
to providing support, certification and training to
PML staff in the future.
Supply chain planning manager Angelo
Kafritsas said in acceptance of the award:
"Philip Morris Limited (PML) has built a
strong partnership with apicsAU that spans
over many years. We embarked on a major
program a few years ago to up-skill our staff
across all supply chain functions that included
planning, procurement, distribution and logistics
functions. We gave our staff the opportunity to
participate in global accreditation courses such
as the Certification in Production and Inventory
Management (CPIM) and the Certified Supply
Chain Professional (CSCP) to increase their
overall knowledge of supply chain principles.
"The importance of these courses was
twofold: firstly, the development opportunity for
our staff to gain a broader perspective of the
end-to-end supply chain and not just in their
specialised focused area, and secondly, to build
a more effective and efficient supply chain for
PML in order to pursue cost savings and pro-
ductivities across all supply chain functions.
"We would like to thank apicsAU for its
continuous support for the development of our
staff, and we look forward working with it in the
From December 2015, apicsAU will be
offering its professional services, edu-
cation and training from QAD's Clayton-
The move from North Melbourne to Clayton
is primarily motivated by the desire to improve
access for the supply chain community to
apicsAU's services and support.
"From a geographical perspective, apicsAU
research suggests that a greater concentration
of both current and potential members are
based in the South Eastern Melbourne location,"
said Pieter Nagel, CEO of apicsAU.
"apicsAU has for some time been aware
that its physical location may be a hurdle to
students attending the face-to-face instruction
programs, for which apicsAU is well-known. By
relocating to Clayton, apicsAU plans to provide
a more convenient and accessible service to its
members," he said.
The location has been tried and tested, with
QAD making its offices available for apicsAU
professional development presentations
throughout 2015. Attendance numbers to these
monthly presentations have been good and the
facility has been ideal.
QAD, a provider of enterprise software and
services designed for global manufacturing
companies, and therefore not disconnected
from the supply chain world, has a quality
facility that can both cater to apicsAU admin-
istrative business and its training needs. "The
QAD offices are well-appointed, and the training
facility ideally equipped to provide a quality
learning environment for apicsAU members,"
said Mr Nagel.
The arrangement with QAD is a commer-
cial one and apicsAU does not by association
endorse QAD as a software provider over and
above other providers in the space. As Mr Nagel
points out: "apicsAU is a vendor-neutral society
that focuses on teaching best-practice princi-
ples, not on advocating the use of particular
software. The co-location with QAD does not
"At the same time, as a non-profit commu-
nity, we are always looking for opportunities to
maintain our services at an affordable level for
members, many of whom are practitioners who
are often self-funding their apicsAU studies and
membership. By providing facilities at a com-
mercially attractive rate, QAD provides much-ap-
preciated support in our quest to provide quality,
affordable education and professional develop-
ment in the sector.
"With our North Melbourne lease up for
renewal this year, and our eye firmly on providing
a quality, convenient and cost-effective service to
members, we are delighted to have the opportu-
nity to share office space in Clayton."
apicsAU looks forward to welcoming current
and new members to its offices in Clayton,
located at Suite D6, 758 Blackburn Road.■
