Home' MHD Supply Chain Solutions : MHD JULY-AUGUST Contents There is always a challenge to keep
exhibitions exciting and relevant. With the
twelfth edition of Smart Expo taking place
next year, the organisers – Interpoint Events
have analysed the market and introduced
some new elements to ensure the
exhibition remains the leading event for the
supply chain industry.
According to Simon Cooper, Managing
Director of Interpoint, the Smart Expo has
gone through a number of changes since
its inception. “The exhibition alongside Smart Conference began
life as a materials handling show”, he said. “The first editions had
large stands and displayed materials handling equipment with
racking and warehousing prominent. However with growth in
the manufacturing sector, the demand changed to efficiencies
and cost savings and research indicated managers were looking
at better and faster ways to send goods to market. Around 10
years ago the retail sector started to implement supply chain
efficiencies with a strong emphasis on technology. At the 2007
Smart Expo more than 65% of exhibitors were demonstrating
The 2013 edition saw another development change in the exhibitor
landscape, with the emphasis on ICT and a focus towards
managing entire warehouses and their logistic processes.
Smart Expo reflects the changing nature of the market. Shifts in
buying habits and a growth in eCommerce and online retailing,
changes in transport and delivery such as intelligent transport
systems and process optimisation, plus the growing safety
requirements of transport in everything from hazardous materials
to the live animal export trade.
2015 heralds a number of new initiatives, but one element
remains unchanged: “the location of the exhibition alongside
Australia’s largest supply chain conference always ensured
exhibitors access to decision makers with purchasing authority”
said Simon Cooper.
The co-location with National Manufacturing Week (NMW)
provides visitors to both NMW and Smart opportunity to see
many more new products and technologies. A second new
feature is the location of the event. “Smart Expo has always taken
place in Sydney. We have had requests from Victorian groups for
Smart to be held in Melbourne on a number of occasions. The
response so far has been extremely positive and we are receiving
expressions of interest from some State Government bodies to
be a part of the event which bodes well”, Simon said.
Smart Expo is expected to host more than sixty exhibitors. The
dedicated 1000+ visitors, plus more than 600 conference delegates
will be bolstered by 2000 – 3000 visitors expected for NMW.

THE SMART DIFFERENCE
Smart Expo is the only event in Australia that provides a
comprehensive insight into the challenges and solutions
for supply chain leaders. The exhibition includes displays
of warehousing, transport, supply chain technologies and
education/ training opportunities.
The real difference for Smart attendees has always been: the
education opportunities provided by the conference and the
networking opportunities throughout the event. Networking
is an integral part of the event and essential for managers to
build a business. Smart Expo is expanding the networking
options for 2015. On the show floor, will be two business
lounges with refreshments available. “These lounges will be
like your office away from your office”, said Simon Cooper.
They will provide the environment for high level decision
makers to meet and discuss business opportunities”.
Two stand options
New pedestal options – the pedestals provide unique setting
for software displays. They provide an easy and informative
display set up.
Traditional booths are also available. In previous events
exhibition space has been restricted, but the new venue – the
Melbourne Exhibition Centre is a purpose built exhibition hall,
allowing exhibitors the flexibility to showcase large equipment
if they wish.
LOOKING AT EXHIBITING?
Every year there is a significant level of innovation and
advancement in the supply chain and logistics industry. Smart
Expo acts as a forum to introduce new supply chain research
and technology to learn more about products and services
which can assist companies in day to day operations.
“Smart remains the largest event in Australia for the supply
chain, transport and logistics industry. It is the only occasion
when all the major industry bodies come together and the
caliber of attendee, in 2013, was extremely high. We aim to
bring a dynamic and exciting event to Melbourne and ensure
attendees and exhibitors alike benefit from the change in
state”, said Simon Cooper.
